Post-BS students who have not yet earned a Master’s degree from a US or Canadian University may pursue a Milestone Master’s. International students who have earned a Master’s degree in their home country are also eligible for this pathway. A Milestone Master’s degree must be completed in the same department that the student completes their PhD in (meaning only Robotics PhD candidates may apply for a Robotics Milestone MS).

Students on this path will be required to complete the Robotics MS Degree as an MS-Project student (30 credits total: 21 course credits, 3 seminar credits and 6 project credit hours). A student must meet the following criteria prior to earning a Milestone Master’s degree:

1. Meet with Graduate Student Coordinator to add MS program to file
2. Complete MS coursework requirements with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher
3. Apply for MS degree when requirements are met with the option of participating in convocations

It is suggested that Post-BS PhD candidates seeking a Milestone MS should complete the MS in 3-4 semesters (See Advisement Plan for a Milestone MS and PhD). After MS completion, the PhD candidate will apply the completed MS coursework to waive the same PhD course requirements. Candidates will then continue to complete additional PhD coursework, milestones and dissertation research.

(Minimum credits required)

  • 30 course credits (6000 and 7000 level coursework); AND
